From Our New Apprentice Max Whalen

Hey, I’m Max Whalen, the new River Walk Apprentice! I grew up in Pittsfield, MA where I graduated from Pittsfield High in 2018. After PHS I went to Berkshire Community College for a year and then moved on to Westfield State University where I studied environmental science. Because of Covid -19 I chose to take a gap year from school, which opened many new doors for me.

I was able to work for Greenagers in the summer, Berkshire Natural Resource Council in the fall, and in the winter I was blessed with the opportunity to serve as the TerraCorps Land Stewardship Coordinator with Greeangers. During my time at Greenagers I worked on the Great Barrington River Walk where I rebuilt walls, painted fences, recorded plant and animal activity and generally had a great time. The River Walk was one of my favorite work sites. It’s amazing that there can be such a nice walking trail for the community right in downtown GB, it’s the perfect place to grab lunch and sit and eat by the river. I can’t wait to work more on theRiver Walk this spring and summer!
